What is a Levy
A levy is a legal process by which a creditor, who has obtained a judgment against a debtor, seeks to satisfy the debt by seizing and selling the debtor’s property. This procedure involves the identification and confiscation of assets belonging to the debtor, which can include personal property such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, and trailers. The seized property is then sold at a public auction, and the proceeds are used to pay off the judgment, including any accrued interest and costs. The process is typically conducted by a levying officer, often a sheriff or other court-appointed official, who ensures that the legal requirements are met and oversees the sale of the assets.
Appeal: An appeal must be filed within 10 days of the judgment by the losing party.
